FELICEThis is a beautiful example of what has become known as "Haitian Art," typified by bright colors and reflecting daily life. The market is organized, managed and attended by women.Woman carrying cane and other products they've grown or purchased.Women with baskets on their heads full of fruits and vegetables.Women sitting by their wares, awaiting customers.Women customers shoulder-to-shoulder. This is one of the mainstays of Haitian society, even todaywhen there are supermarkets because those stores are not in the rural areas and poor rural refrigeration often requires daily marketing of perishable foods. This beautiful acrylic pops with the true marketplace colors and is frenetic enough to almost produce sound.The market office is center, around which the market grows and disappears every day. The frame is appropriately almost invisible, allowing the market to feel unfettered. The painting has two small holes that get lost in the "noise" of the painting. They are almost impossibleto see. I did not know they existed until I looked at the back of the painting.This did not deter me from acquiring this in a charity auction.I taped the holes from the rear to prevent them from becoming a rip.
