Tom Crowell ATQ VTG English Still Life Flower Bouquet Basket Fruit Painting

Incredibly beautiful!! Listed Artist: Tom Crowell (20th century) United Kingdom- very little is known about this artist-no additional information available-see Christie’s auction for any other factual information. Medium: oil on panel Signed on front lower left Gilt frame with wheat design-heavy and thick Dates: 20th century-exact age is unknown as painting is not dated. Roughly 70+ ?years old or possibly older. Measures: Painting-16” x 22” Frame- 24” x 30” Condition: Needs some restoration! Varnish shows lifting and peeling (highly visible)-mostly in middle ground , left side as shown. There is some bloom (highly visible) associated with varnish to left side background, dust, paint brush fibers and lint beneath varnish layer, uneven varnish. The painting has a high gloss varnish and with the conditions stated above it has a visible glare. My thoughts are that the oil painting might not have been completely dry before applying the varnish causing some of the conditions stated above. Also, there is some toning and or yellowing to oil paint, some light paint flecks, brown stains, couple scuffs, scratches and other wear from age. This is an incredibly well done painting that deserves proper restoration. It’s just beautiful!! Frame condition: Chips, cracks, splits, stains, water spots and stains, scuffs, residue and wear. Frame also needs repair as shown it does have damaged areas. Still hangs very nicely in current condition. Frame and painting are sold as-is, as shown in images.
