Up for sale is an absolutely stunning mid century portrait by the United States Air Force hero lieutenant Colonel John B. Pierson. The photo realistic portrait was executed in 1967 as dated low right and is illegibly signed by the Filipino artist which is where this was commissioned just prior to him retiring. John Pierson had an incredible flying record in WWII as a pilot part of the 22nd Bomb Group in the South Pacific. Successfully completing 42 combat missions and a total of 350 hours by the end of the war. The portrait is executed in oil on canvas measuring 27 x 21 inches while its original decorative wood frame measures 34 x 28 inches making this work ready to be hung and enjoyed. Pierson purchased a handful of excellent works while in the Philippines so if you recognize this artist please do let me know. The condition of the canvas shows some flaking/loss primarily on the collar and top shoulder which would be easy for a conservator to in paint. Overall this is one of the most stunning military portraits I have had the pleasure of owning especially with the knowledge of who the sitter is. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this museum quality Filipino painting of a USAF hero but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
