Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya, flourishing between the 13th and 15th centuries. It is one of the few Maya sites built directly on the coast — perched on cliffs above the Caribbean Sea — and its temples are among the most distinctive and recognizable in all of pre-Columbian architecture.
