Born into a family of artists, Ruane was inspired by his older brother Guy Manning, the renowned Western artist of Native American Indians. His professional influences began at an early age when Ruane became a commercial artist. Surrounded by the best illustrators in country, Ruane worked closely with his mentor, Rudy Garcia. Influenced by the wildlife painter, Charles Frace and Guy Coheleach, Ruane soon transitioned to painting wildlife and animal portraits that defines his style. Early in his career, Ruane traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe painting and sketching throughout his journeys, including the emerald green hues of the Irish countryside, which was the homeland of his grandparents. With a reverence for wildlife and landscapes, and an intimate connection with nature, Ruane's paintings evolve through his authentic detailing, innovative lighting and distinctive technique.Ruane studied at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and his awards include a Gold Medal from the Philadelphia Art Alliance for Best Design, and Certificate of Excellence from the Art Directors Club in Philadelphia in 1965, and from the City Council of Philadelphia honoring and recognizing Ruane for his commissioned portrait of Joseph McGarrity, painted in 2016 for the 100th Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland. In 1968, his first wildlife print was published, and since then, he has won many accolades for original oil paintings and prints which were commissioned by Danbury Mint, the Franklin Mint and the Hamilton Collection. His stone sculptures are included in the collections of U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford. His paintings, sculptures and prints were collected by many celebrities including, Peanuts Cartoonist Charles Schultz, Liberace, Tom Jones, Kiss, and the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team.
