Heavy black ground built up in thick, troweled impasto, crossed top to bottom by two vertical channels of pooled black and gold paint. Born Rose Kalmowitz, Hertzberg studied as a teenager under her uncle, WPA artist and Disney illustrator Abram Champanier, and with Yasuo Kuniyoshi.
