Born: January 17, 1923, he was the son of the late Arthur and Catherine Thomas Doney. He was a 1940 graduate of Pen Argyl High School. He studied at Pratt Institute, and then enlisted in the U.S. Marines, serving as a gunner aboard the USS Montpelier in the Pacific.
