RARE -JEAN GOODWIN AMES -ORIGINAL PAINTING DALZELL HATFIELD GALLERIES L.A. -1945

The painting is in good condition and is signed and dated 1945. It has the original gallery label on the back with the title. Her paintings don’t appear come up for sale that often and I was only able to find mostly enamels and ceramic pieces. It measures approximately 21 1/4 x 17 1/2“ framed, and the viewable image size is approximately 13 1/2 x 9 3/4“. There may be a slight buildup on the canvas with age, and it could probably use a professional cleaning. The frame does have a bit of wear with age, such as some scuffs and dings around the edges. Together with her husband, Arthur Ames, Jean completed several murals composed of glazed tile, glass mosaic and enamel. The Ames met in an evening ceramics class taught by Glen Lukens. In 1940 they collaborated on a number of Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) projects, commissions for Sheets Studio and other corporate and private commissions. For over thirty years, Jean taught at the Claremont Graduate School and Scripps College. The Ames donated their collection of post-war ceramics to Scripps College.
