Outstanding abstract 1973 oil on masonite, "Realismo Social," by listed Mexican modernist painter and muralist Rafael Bonilla Cortes (1924-2011). Bonilla studied at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City and had his first exhibition at the Jose Maria Velasco Gallery in Mexico City in 1963. He had numerous exhibitions thereafter, including exhibitions at Salon de la Plastica, Annual Watercolor Salon, Watercolor Biennial, and many others. He won numerous prizes for his work and a retrospective was held at the Polforum Siqueiros in Mexico City in 2007. This oil on masonite is signed and dated lower left and is dated and titled verso.
