FOLK ART PAINTING outsider artist RA MILLER Devil on Coca Cola Sign 20" x 27"( RA MILLER From Georgia, 1912-2006) Signed acrylic on metal Good condition but with very minor paint loss Outsider artist RA MILLER - He made art to “beautify his yard” by cutting out tin pieces and and often combining pieces to form elaborate whirlygigs and functional windscreens and ornamental objects. He began to fashion his brightly painted tin constructions which he attached to stakes in his yard, larger wood assemblages. RA Miller, a southern folk artist, was the youngest of eight children. At 12 years of age he worked in the cotton mill, for 20 years. After his marriage he started preaching over northeast Georgia. After retiring he began to create his own art and whirligigs. He often did patriotic themed art. He used old tin, recycled wood, bicycle parts and scrap metal for materials. He is known for the painted cutouts and drawings. His artwork has appeared in various books and exhibits on Folk Art and in the Band, R.E.M's videos His paintings and cut-outs have been shown at the High Museum of Art exhibition "Outside the Mainstream: Folk Art in our Time.
