PATIENCE ARNOLD SIGNED ORIGINAL WATERCOLOUR PAINTING FAIRY TALE WITCH CATS SCENE

Original signed watercolour on paper by British artist Patience Arnold (1901-1992) depicting a whimsical fairy tale village scene with an elderly woman in a pointed hat suggestive of a traditional witch or wise woman seated beneath trees in conversation with another elderly figure. Surrounded by cats and a small dog, the composition includes cottages, winding pathways and a rural landscape rendered in Arnold's distinctive storybook style. Signed lower right. Image size 33 by 23 cm and framed size 48.5 by 38 cm. Patience Arnold studied at the Harris School of Art in Preston and became a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. She gained national recognition for her nursery rhyme, fairy tale and children's book illustrations. A charming and characterful example of her imaginative illustrative work.
