The Orchard gallery is pleased to be able to offer a lovely collection of paintings and drawings by the Northern artist John Gilbey Bowles 1929-2011. Each work being offered is a visual feast of colour, composition and emotion. Bowles won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art at a young age. His drive to convey a new visual language caught the attention of L S Lowry and he helped him to get his first major exhibition in 1965 and they became lifelong friends. Throughout his career he developed other friendships with other major British 20th century artists. This lovely example of his work depicts a study of a field mouse and a butterfly amongst the flowers. It is executed in gouache on black paper and measures 10x9 inches and comes unframed.
