The drawing appears to be drawn with ink, black pencil, and colored pencil or watercolor. There is a light water stain in the lower left and a small crease in the lower right corner; both can be addressed when the drawing is framed. John Dempsey (1911-2002) began his illustration career in the 1940s and became best known for his cartoons for Playboy magazine. Although this drawing is undated, it appears to come from his first years as an artist, the late 1940s or early 1950s, anticipating the work he would later make famous in Playboy. It is most likely unpublished. All original drawings by Dempsey are scarce.
