Original Framed Hand Painted Profile Portrait - 'A Portly Gentleman, circa 1820' by Pennsylvania Artist David Young. I've had this antique frame for a long time while I waited to find some thing appropriate to put in it. Never did, so I decided to paint something myself which would look good in it. I decided on a watercolor painted silhouette and found a character I liked from the early 19th century. I've become increasingly interested in silhouettes lately, particularly those painted by the few late eighteenth century and early 19th century artists who painted them in this style and I've been creating them myself. I've already painted quite a few of them and will start listing them here on eBay to see if others share my enthusiasm. But back to the portly gentleman ... He's painted in watercolor on illustration board which I first 'antiqued'. The frame is a genuine antique, not sure what period, but the unusual decoration is created by clear glass over a marbleized metallic foil. And like many antique frames, it's not without its damage. The glass in the upper left corner was broken and replaced (not a good fit) and the upper left corner has a small chip of glass missing. But despite these damages, they are not that noticeable and the overall look of the frame is great. The painting is 5" x 4" with the overall size being 8" x 7". A brass ring hanger at the top, but I put a modern zig-zag hanger on the back. _______________________________
