Fentress, Norfolk, VA : 1926-2007, born in Princess Anne County, Virginia. Mr. Fentress served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and received a purple heart from injuries sustained on the island of Iwo Jima. He was a well-known local Tidewater artist; he divided his time between his home in Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Norfolk. Tom is known for his wonderful paintings of historical Norfolk/Hampton Roads landmarks. He had an ability to bring all of the scenes to life from Norfolk's Ocean View to Main Street, as well as beach scenes and his extreme detail to paintings of sea vessels with every brush stroke. Tom had a retrospective of his work at Pretlow Library in Norfolk's Ocean View, a few months after his death in 2007.
