This is a fascinating and intriguing record created by an artist of a work of art that is now lost to us forever! La Tempête[the Tempest] An unsigned original stone lithograph, possibly a unique impression NOTE: This is absolutely NOT a mass-produced commercially printed work. Titled La Tempête – Ruisdael and dated 20 juin – 11 juillet 1926the artwork measures 8.25" x 11.5" and was printed on a sheet of paper measuring 9.75" x 12.5, with illegible watermarkThe work is in very good condition, as illustrated. Please look at the six photos, as well as the final photo, the vintage black and white photograph that is the only online image available of Ruisdael's original, now lost, oil painting. after the c1670 oil painting A Stormy Sea by Jacob van Ruisdael [Ruysdael] (c. 1628/1629–1682) Ruisdael’s oil painting was formerly in the collection of the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum in Berlin (Flakturm Friedrichshain, renamed the Bode Museum in 1956). Destroyed by fire May 6-18, 1945, at the end of World War II. Although Ruisdael was a prolific landscape painter, there are fewer than 30 known seascapes by the artist in existence, making the loss of this work especially regrettable.
