John Flexmore Original Watercolour, “'Ploughed Paddock, Avonsleigh” Unframed

“Ploughed Paddock, Avonsleigh” Original watercolour from the artist’s estate. An original watercolour on paper by John Flexmore which was hung in Flexmore’s exhibition at the Athenaeum Gallery in 1953, #47, priced at 10 guineas. The picture shows a ploughed field of red earth in the foreground, a row of trees separating the field from the rolling hills behind, a group of wonderful clouds are above. Signed and dated lower right, “John Flexmore ’52." John Flexmore, (1911 - 2004) was a well-known Melbourne artist, a watercolour specialist, mainly of representational landscapes. He studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1930-37 under Bernard Hall, Charles Wheeler and W.B. McInnes. After war service he painted mostly watercolour landscapes, but he also painted several oil portraits under commission, two of which were finalists for the Archibald Prize. In his early days, he made a considerable number of linotype prints. Flexmore held biennial one-man shows at the Athenaeum Gallery, Melbourne until 1970. Flexmore’s works are very easy to live with, being very restful. His work is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas. Size: 28.5 x 37.5 cm.
