To learn more about us please click on our profile This miniature demonstrates absolutely all stylistic criteria of works of Vienna artist of late 18th century Johann Baptist Anker. It is also our strong belief that it is his original work (see for comparison our additional image nr.8 and our last image with the photograph of another female portrait by Anker in our possession). Johann Baptist Anker (or Ancker) was born in 1760 in Ettenheim by Strasbourg and died after 1824. From 1780 he lived in Vienna, studying at the Vienna Academy under Friedrich Heinrich Fueger, who influenced him a great deal. There are only few of his miniatures that are known.
