This "Hudson River School" painting demonstrates the fine art of creating seemingly 3D scenery with an impasto technique - bringing the trees to life - when viewed from a distance of 5-10 feet. This three dimensional effect, the impasto layering of paint, is not noticeable with the 2D photo's in this listing - but the school of luminism is - which makes this piece of fine art truly breathtaking when viewed in person. This original oil painting is very old - as can be judged by the amount of dust on the back lower frame and the loss of gold gilding on the frame. This fine work of art appears to be signed "Martin" please view the closeup photograph of the signature. This might be a work of Homer Dodge Martin, famous for "The Hudson River School" but the stapled canvas to frame indicates that this painting has been re-stretched since the 1940's, or might be a forgery, or perhaps I hadn't read the signature correctly and the artist didn't sign "Martin". Either way, it is a very impressive and vintage part of the history of American art. Aging gracefully, a bit of the gold gilding has worn off, as seen in some of the photos. I have Included many pictures for you to judge for yourself. I've also included several closeup photos of the impasto layering that created the 3D effect. Canvas measures 11 1/2 x 15 framed approx 15x19. Displays very well as you can see from the last picture. Impress your friends with this exquisite example of Hudson River School of art. A great addition to your collection. Other fine works of art are listed here on eBay. check out my other UNIQUE and rare items listed here on ebay Please note: No provenance.
