Frederike Stokhuyzen (b.1938) Born in Johannesburg of Dutch parents in 1938, Frederike Stokhuyzen obtained a degree in fine art at Rhodes university, South Africa, followed by a teaching diploma. She then spent a year at the central School of Arts and crafts in London, specializing in the design of stained glass windows. This is a beautiful oil on canvas titled "Xhosa Woman in Mielie Field". It depicts four woman standing in colorful period garments with farm implements in hand and appears to be painting in the 1960 -70's or so. It is housed in a thin cloth bordered frame with interior white wooden border.
