🔥 Fine Antique Old 19th c. American Folk Art Girl Portrait Oil Painting, 1880

This is a masterful and lovely Fine Antique Old 19th c. American Folk Art Girl Portrait Oil Painting on canvas, by seldomly seen 19th c. Swiss - American portrait painter, Michel Collombin (1844 - 1910.) This artwork depicts the captivating and charming portrait of a young blond girl, likely four or five years old. She wears an elegant white dress with lace fringes and gold striped accents, and stares directly in the viewers direction. Her facial expression is both confident and pensive, and she sits in a large burgundy high-backed chair. This piece is signed and dated: "M. Collombin 1880" in the lower left corner. There is very little biographical information on this painter, aside from a few scant French-language references from century-old publications. Perhaps you know more about the artist or his work? In photo 24, I have included an excerpt from a very old publication that describes the artist. It mentions that he immigrated to North American in 1873, so this painting would have likely been one of his first commissioned portraits for a wealthy patron family in the United States. Approximately 26 3/8 x 31 1/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 22 x 27 1/8 inches. Very good condition for nearly 150 years of age, with a few small tears to the canvas, light speckles of wear in the top corners, and mild scuffing and edge wear to the original period gilded wood frame (please see photos.)
