Offered here is an 18” x 24” oil on canvas painting commemorating Ellie Nesler’s release from prison in 1997. This painting was done by local San Pedro artist Logan fox in 1997. Ellie Nesler was the woman convicted of killing a man in a courtroom who was accused of sexually assaulting her son. This painting features an emotional portrait of Nesler taking up half the composition. The other half is a partial recreation of a 1997 Los Angeles Times news article with hand painted lettering. There is some interesting symbolism contained within the composition including a painting of a card of the “ace of cups” which might symbolize new beginnings for Nesler. There is also a girl, presumably one of Nesler’s nieces or daughter with angel-like wings on her back. Lastly there is a white bird flying at a downward angle. The portrait of Nesler features warm reds with cool purple shadows on her clothing. This has been expertly painted by Logan. It is about 1/8” shy of 18” x 24” meaning that it can easily be framed in a standard sjze frame. Canvas has been stretched then stapled on the sides. Stretcher bars are ever so slightly skewed but not enough to affect hang-ability. Depth of canvas is 3/4” Logan Fox is a colorblind artist which makes the execution of this painting that much more impressive. His used of value (light and shade) is on point. This painting was originally from the Studio of Scott Brown/Logan Fox at Angels Gate in San Pedro, CA. Signed by artist in top right corner. Feel free to ask questions.
