Edwin Earp (1851-1945), British artist. Gorgeous water color scene in original gilt frame. Signed in lower Right. Dated 1884.Approximately 11" x 18.25" as framed, image area is approximately 5" x 13.25".Edwin Earp is believed to be the eldest son of Henry Earp senior, head of a large family of artists. He was perhaps the most prolific of the family and painted across the British Isles and in Europe, with paintings in Scandanavia and Germany just 2 of the areas recorded. He favored landscapes and especially mountainous scenes in Scotland, Wales and the Lake District. His paintings would have found a ready market and are equally popular today. He is also believed to have painted under the pseudonym L Lewis, probably as a result of being contracted to an art dealer or, more likely, a publishing house.A connoisseur of landscapes, Edwin Earp exhibited a penchant for capturing the awe-inspiring beauty of mountainous terrains. His artistic gaze was particularly drawn to the rugged splendors of Scotland, the majestic vistas of Wales, and the serene allure of the Lake District. Through his brush, he masterfully translated the grandeur of these locales onto canvas, creating timeless pieces that continue to resonate with art enthusiasts today.Overall good condition. There appears to be a crack in glass but it has not come all the way through. I am willing to ship unframed, please contact me following the auction for an new invoice. I have not cleaned this item aside from a light dust off. Light soiling, dust, old age toning, dents, paint loss could be present along with other minor wear consistent with age.
