Edvard Munch (1863–1944) was a Norwegian artist whose brooding, anguished paintings and graphic works, based on personal grief and obsessions, were instrumental in the development of expressionism. Munch gives permission to reproduce Das Koncert (his Violin Concert lithograph) for the closing vignette in a music publication: “Ich bin damit einverstanden das [sic] Sie ‘Das Koncert’ als Schlussvignet[te]...reproduzieren”. The letter is one page on a postcard with a typed address panel that has been stamped and postmarked, measures 5.75” by 3.5”, created in Skoyen, Norway on July 2, 1929, authenticated by Sotheby’s, the world’s leading auction house, and authenticated by RR Auction, the world’s leading auction auction house.
