This is a beautiful untitled original piece for vibrate watercolors of a village scene painted on a silk canvas. Walsh, who has been creating batik artwork on St. Thomas since moving to the island in 1989, continues to push the envelope of the traditional wax-resist dye process. She grew up in New York and Pittsburgh, studied at Penn State University, then spent 15 months on a sketching tour of Western Europe and 10 years working in Oregon before moving to the islands. Drawing from and responding to her surroundings, she captures images and feelings, lights, shapes and colors to form moments in time. "There is a lot to learn from the Caribbean's often-contradictory facets of life, from the mind-boggling destruction of hurricanes to the awesome resiliency of humanity," she says. Framed 14" x 16" This will be Walsh’s first one-woman show since she resumed exhibiting this year at the Caribbean Colour 2011 show. She is known for bringing innovative ideas to batik, the ancient Indonesian technique of applying melted wax to fabric before dyeing. She often works in a series of themes or colors, ranging from miniature abstracts to large-scale triptychs. From Oregon, Walsh moved to St. Thomas in 1989. Her credits include several awards and shows in the Virgin Islands and on the mainland. This art piece and been keep in a smoke and pet free environment. Any questions, please ask.
