To learn more about us click on our profile This miniature resurfaced several years ago as the third (thus unknown to art historians) variation of the well-known miniature portrait of Johann Georg I, Elector of Saxony (1585-1656; for two other replicas of his portrait, see our additional images). The painter of all three miniatures was Daniel Bretschneider the Younger. He was born before 1623 and died in 1658 in Dresden. He was the son and pupil of Dresden painter and engraver Daniel Bretschneider the Elder (1550-aft. 1625).
