To learn more about us please click on our profile 800x600 Normal 0 21 false false false DE-AT X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 From the authentic hand-written German text on verso we learn that this painting was made by anonymous German artist on base of the information provided by participant of Liberation war of 1813 on territory of modern Germany, then military officer and resident of town Monschau by Aachen (we found his portrait - see image) Johann Nepomuk de Berghes. The painting shows patrol of one of Russian Bashkir Cossak regiments. In ranks of the Russian cavalry there were then fifteen Cossack regiments recruited from Bashkirs (inhabitants of Ural region), each containing 500 men (so-called "pyaty-solenny;"regiments) who were chiefly armed with lances and bows. In 1813, these troops especially participated in the sieges of the fortresses Danzig, Hamburg, Dresden, etc. After the end of the "Foreign Campaign" these regiments returned to Ural and were disbanded.
