To learn more about us click on our profile Stylistically, this very high quality oil painting meets all criteria of those by the well-known 19th-century Munich genre artist Hugo Kauffmann, and could with great possibility be his original work (for comparison, see our images nr. 10-16). Hugo (Hugo Wilhelm) Kauffmann was born in 1844 in Hamburg as a son of the artist Hermann Kauffmann. In 1861 he had gone to Frankfurt/Main, where he worked as an assistant of Jakob Becker, Edward Jakob von Steinle and Johann Nepomuk Zwerger. In 1863-71 he lived in Kronberg in Taunus (with an exception of a one-a-half-year sojourn in Paris).In 1871 the artist settled in Munich, where he soon became one of the most important representatives of the Munich School of genre painting.
