To learn more about us please click on our profile This portrait miniature was acquired together with a group of other French miniatures that formerly belonged to the famous Parisian collection Bernard-Franck. **Born and died in Paris, Bernard Franck was a grandson and grand-nephew of soldiers of the Empire. The son of an art collector, he naturally became a collector himself and, to begin with, especially of objects relating to life, mainly under the Revolution and the Empire: weapons, badges, miniature portraits, paintings, drawings, prints, books, in particular collections of costumes. Then his interest extended to showcase objects from the same and previous periods (he often lent works from his collection for various exhibitionsI. Part of the collections that Bernard Franck had brought together in fifty years of effort were dispersed in about fifteen public sales, most of them anonymous. Another part, which remained in the family, had to suffer from major thefts committed by the German occupation, World War II. Fortunately whole crates were found and recovered (* Frits Lugt, "Les Marques de Collections de Dessins & d’Estampes").
