Howard wrote on the back of the painting that this is a copy of painting by Arthur Hill Gilbert who was known for his colorful canvases of meadows and trees along the 17 Mile Drive in Monterey County, California. He was part of a group of American Impressionists who lived and painted in the artist colony scene in the Carmel and Laguna Beach areas in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
