Carlos Jiménez-Placer y Echevarría (1837-1896) was a native of Seville, Spain and studied under Rossi and Cabral Bejarano, established in Seville, and José Casado de Alisal, who resided in Madrid. A renaissance man, Placer was also a poet, playright, art critic, jounalist and editor of the newspaper Diario de Sevilla.
