Anthony Andreas de Meyier 1806-1867 Dutch 19th century painting winter scene

A mid 19th century, antique painting of a classic winter scene in the Netherlands, complete with windmill and skaters on the ice, a horse-drawn cart, and picturesque old structures. The oil on old oak panel measures 8" by 10 1/2" (16" by 18" in the apparently original antique frame, which has considerable losses at right). The painting is signed at lower left by the noted Dutch nineteenth century painter Anthony Andreas de Meyier (sometimes spell Meyer, or Meijier), 1806-1867. The artist studied with Schelfhout and accompanied him on a trip to Germany in the mid 1830's. De Meyier's body of work includes classic landscapes of the Low Country, with many featuring ice skaters in winter. The light is luminous on this piece, which could benefit from a freshening up/professional cleaning. A label on the frame suggests that this passed through a Dutch auction house in September 1999.
