This painting of two hunting dogs is by the Belgian artist Paul Schouten (1860-1922). Paul is the half brother of the also well known painter Henry Schouten. He specialized in paintings of dogs, cattle, horses and other animals. This large painting is a classic example of his work with good detail and rich colors. It is in good antique condition with only some light crazing of the paint (see photos). The frame is from the same period as the painting and is most likely original. The frame has several woodworm holes and is slightly bowed (see photos). Dimensions: 31.5" wide, 27.75" tall and 1.75" thick in its frame. The canvas size is 28.25" wide and 24.75" tall.
