Identifiable by the wearing of his priestly habit, a crucifix in his hand, and the palm of martyrdom, he is notably the patron saint of boatmen, bridges and priests, which makes him one of the most venerated saints. The story of Saint John Nepomucene, which displeased King Wenceslas IV of Bohemia, spread in the 15th century.
